Ich betreibe selbst ein größeres Portal auf der Grundlage von opensocial.
Die Software ist ganz gut und kommt dem, was du möchtest (facebook like) ziemlich nahe.

Die Betreuung und Weiterentwicklung der Software ist aber nicht trivial und deshalb auch ein Fulltime-Job.
Meine Erfahrung:
Die Community, sobald sie existiert, hat jede Menge von Ideen, die sie gerne hätte, die in dem "Paket" von open-Social noch nicht integriert sind. Deswegen ist auch die Weiterentwicklung unabdingbar. Das Anspruchsdenken der Community ist in der Regel sehr hoch.
Insbesondere ist das auch ein Problem bei den mobilen Endgeräten. Drupal hat sich zwar auf die Fahnen geschrieben: mobile first.... aber das ist nur ein Etikett weil es sich schön anhört. Aus meiner Sicht steckt nichts dahinter.
Eine bessere Lösung als opensocial ist mir aber auch nicht begegnet.

Es gibt so wie es aussieht auch ein Real-Time-Chat Modul und eine Native Handy App.

Hab mal angefragt was da für Kosten für die Module auf mich zukommen ;)

die Community, die ich dort betreibe ist geschlossen. Deshalb bringt das nichts.
Das ist die Kommunikationsplattform für eine politische Partei.
Du müsstest schon Mitglied in der Partei sei und auch noch in nrw wohnen.

RealTimeChat (RTC) ist sehr resourcenhungrug am Server.
Jeder Teilnehmer muss eine stehende Verbindung über einen Socket erhalten.
Da machen shared hosts schon mal nicht mit.
Selbst mit einem eigenen Server kommst du schnell an Grenzen.
Das wird dann sehr anspruchsvoll von der Hardwareausstattung her.

Willst du gar Audio oder sogar Video streamen, brauchst du einen entsprechenden Provider und einen anspruchsvollen Resourcenplan.

Daran scheitert es nicht ;)

Die Server die ich nutze sind eigentlich recht leistungsstark.

Was ich nicht verstehe ist, warum soll ein Chatsystem unter Drupal leistungshungriger sein wie unter WP, Joomla, OSSN oder Oxwall?

Ist es nicht. RTC's benötigen im Allgemeinen mehr Rechenleistung.

Ich versuche nun seit nunmehr fast 6 Monaten open social auf einem meiner Server zum laufen zu bringen :(
ich habe es bis heute noch nicht fertig gebracht.

Ich lande schon bei der Installation bei einer unmenge von Fehlermeldungen :(

Tja, was soll ich sagen...
ich betreue eine große Menge von Mitgliedern jetzt seit Mitte März.
Die Software ist nicht einfach und mach braucht hier und da Erfahrung, wie man Probleme löst.
Aber im Großen und Ganzen läuft sie ganz stabil.

Die Updates nerven ein bisschen, insbesondere, wenn man noch selbst Patches geschrieben hat.

Die Frage ist ja, sind die Fehlermeldungen hinderlich ?

Ich habe gerade nochmals eine installation gestartet.

Die Installation läuft durch bis zu dem Pumkt bevor man die Seitendaten eingeben muß.

Wenn ich auch aktualisieren klicke erhalte ich zwar die selbe meldung die Installation läuft danach allerdings weiter.

Sorry, ich programmiere seit über 20 Jahren, davon 15 Jahre mit PHP und MySQL, aber solche Probleme hatte ich noch nie. Auch bei anderen Prjekten die ich nicht selbst Programmiert habe, sei es WP, Joomla, Typo3 oder auch anderen Drupal Projekten.

Sorry, ich habe vergessen zu erwähnen das wenn die Installation durchgelaufen ist eine Weiße Seite kommt mit der FDrupal Meldung das Aufgrund einer Fehlers die Seite nicht angezeigt werden kann ;)

Im Server Log sehen ich dort als Beispiel die folgende Fehlermeldung:

Wie schon geschrieben.
ich verwende open Social schon eine ganze Weile. Die Community hat ca. 8000 Mitglieder. Da ist auch richtig was los.
Jetzt steht der Umzug auf Drupal 9 um. Ich hoffe, das wird unproblematisch.
Ich habe es auch auf unterschiedlichen Servern laufen, lokal auf einem WAMP und online zur Zeit bei Webhostone. Nirgends gibt es da Probleme.

ginvite verwende ich da auch, gehört ja zum social Paket. Alles problemlos.

Mich wundern die Probleme, die du da hast, sehr. Hast du alles mit Composer installiert ?
Dein Fehler sieht für mich so aus, als ob eine Bedingung (Dependency) nicht erfüllt wurde. Da muss es vorher wohl schon einen oder mehrere Fehler gegeben haben.

ich Installiere open Social komplett mit dem Composer ;), meines wissens ist das was Open Social anbelangt eh die einzige Möglichkeit der Installation ;)

Bei dem Server handelt es sich um einen Server auf dem nur die Community laufen soll.

Während der Composer Installation erhalte ich keinerlei Fehlermeldungen, also scheint alles was Open Social benötigt installiert zu sein.

Wenn ich dann an allerdings die eigentliche Installation starte, also die Installation über den Browser erhalte ich die folgende Meldung.

Die Installation läuft allerdings weiter.

Wenn die Installation beendet ist, ich vermute mal das das passiert ist lande ich auf einer 403 Seite.

Nach Aktualisierung der Seite bin ich dann allerdings auf der wie es aussieht fertig installierten Seite.

Kann ich nur zustimmen! OpenSocial ist eine tolle Basis - Anpassung ist aber nicht trivial und braucht schon DevOps Know-How. Und ich finde es schon ziemlich gut responsive gemacht.

@SaarlandToday: Klar, die Verlockung ist groß mit wenig Aufwand eine Community-Plattform aufzusetzen die man dann mit Drupal noch anpassen kann und das erste Ergebnis ist cool, für den produktiven Einsatz ist das aber dann eine ganz andere Hausnummer. Vor allem hast Du im Community-Management gleich richtig Verantwortung dafür dass es stabil und sicher(!) läuft - je mehr Menschen es nutzen desto weniger Ausfall kannst Du Dir leisten. Updates, DSGVO, Redundanz, Backups, Versioning per Git, Hardening,...

Wenn Du OpenSocial mal so richtig produktiv im Einsatz sehen willst: https://greenwire.greenpeace.de/komm-an-bord läuft damit, dort kann man sich auch kostenfrei zum testen registrieren (und fairerweise wieder den Account löschen wenn man dort nix mehr machen will). Dahinter steckt aber immens viel Arbeit, die an die Drupal-Distro drangebastelt wurde. Und m.w. ist das auch eine Anpassung vom opensocial-team selbst, die sicher locker fünfstellig gekostet hat.

Genau davon kann ich ein Lied singen.
Wenn man in der Community erst mal ein paar tausend Leute drauf hat, dann wird es mit Updates schwierig. Bis jetzt habe ich alles hinbekommen. Auch größtenteils ohne Datenverlust.
Das Problem ist, dass man nicht alle Funktionalitäten prüfen kann, bevor man ein Update frei schaltet. Und dann kann es eben passieren, dass man schon so ein paar Stunden "zurück muss" Stichwort Datenbanksicherung.
Aber bis jetzt gab es bei mir nur zu verschmerzende Verluste. Das Update von 9.XX z 10.XX (social nicht Drupal) war aber echt hart.

Mit dev/stage/prod Management ist das doch eigentlich kein Problem. Drush hat doch wunderbare Environment Funktionen die sich auch gut ins Deployment per CI/CD einbinden lassen?

Keine Ahnung, was das ist.
Aber wenn du ein Update (ich spreche nur von Datenbank, Filesystem ist easy) machst und dann nach ein paar Stunden feststellst, dass du grundsätzlich etwas "zurück musst", dann musst du eben zurück und einige geschriebene Artikel sind verloren.
Sowas ist der Art ist das Problem, manchmal....

Aber dann sind im Verzeichnis opensocialproject die Dateien vorhanden:

und mit "composer update" geht es dann los, was bedeutet das?

Unter os.example.de/opensocialproject/html geht dann der Installer auch, aber nur mit der Standart-Modul-Auswahl, sonst hagelt es Fehlermeldungen!

Das mag ja sein, daß Du dem Apache php 8.1 gegeben hast, aber der composer benutzt das cli (comand line interface). Setze mittels "update-alternatives --config php" auch das CLI auf php 8.1. Achtung: das cli hat einen eigenen php.ini-File!

Vielleicht noch als Ergänzung zu dem, was bereits Werner schrieb: Man kann auch mittels ~/.bashrc bzw. ~/.bash_profile gezielt eine PHP-Version ansteuern. Beispielsweise durch folgende Anweisungen:

Alternativ wenn man lokal mit MAMP bzw. XAMPP arbeitet, ist das ganz komfortabel über die Nutzerobefläche einstellbar.
